Impatiens commonly known as Himalayan Balsam, Policeman’s helmet, snapweed, jewelweed,touch me not,patience, Impatiens glandulifera – Impatiens is a genus of more than 1,000 species of flowering plants.Impatiens make up the family Balsaminaceae.

Indian Balsam thrives in wasteland, esp in cool, damp conditions. Its Flowers exude a sickly-sweet odour and they are attractive to bees and other insects.
Flowers &Leaves: A tall,hairless annual with vigorous growth,The hooded flowers are pink purple or sometimes white,each about 30-40mm with an angled spur.The Fruits are elongated capsules that spring open suddenly when ripe to fling out the seeds. The leaves grow in whorls and the stem in hollow and reddish.The leaves are entire, often dentate or sinuate with extra floral nectarines. Dependent of the species leaves can be thin to succulent. Particularly on the underside of the leaves, tiny air bubbles are trapped over and under the leaf surface, giving them a silvery sheen that becomes pronounced when they are held under water.
Medicinal Usage :-
- Impatiens contain 2 – methoxy – 1,4 – naphthoquinone, an anti-inflammatory and fungicide.
- North American impatiens have been used as herbal remedies for the treatment of bee stings, insect bites, and stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) rashes.
- Impatiens glandulifera is one of the Bach flower remedies, flower extracts used as herbal remedies for physical and emotional problems. It is included in the “Rescue Remedy” or “Five Flower Remedy”, a potion touted as a treatment for acute anxiety and which is supposed to be protective in stressful situations.
As the name suggest this remedy is for impatient people. Such people are in hurry and rush in their lives whether at home or at work. At work place such individual are very quick in getting their work done and just can’t see other people working in a slow pace, in such cases they would like to make a work done themselves only rather than getting frustrated or aggressive on others. Impatient people like to work alone as they think the other person won’t match their quickness or standards.
